is the newest of the injectable hyaluronic acid fillers approved in the United States. In many ways, Juvéderm™ resembles Restylane, but it has a higher concentration and more cross-linked hyaluronic acid than an equal volume of Restylane. Whether this will lead to increased durability of the product, or more comfortable injections, remains to be proven, though there are some people who feel that this is the case. Juvéderm™ has different flow characteristics than Restylane, and appears less likely to cause lumps than Restylane. (This is primarily an issue in the lips, but we have been able to virtually eliminate this problem by injecting Restylane through very fine needles. Juvéderm™ is too viscous to be injected through these needles.) We now have developed techniques that make the injection of fillers an almost painless experience.
Benefits
Juvéderm is a smooth filler that provides long lasting filling. It is most useful for the lips and works well in fine lines.
Alternatives
Restylane can be used anywhere Juvéderm can be used. Radiesse can be used to replace Juvéderm in replacing deep tissue loss.
Safety and Side Effects
The safety profile of Juvéderm appears to be very good and similar to Restylane, with both products showing rare temporary injection site reactions such as redness, pain or tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps or bumps, bruising, itching or discoloration. Juvéderm adds welcome further diversity to our list of fillers.
Recovery Time
Usually there is no recovery time with Juvéderm. The exception is the lips, where the swelling may be noticeable for up to one week. If there is any bruising, it is usually gone within a week.
